DEVOTED MOTHER, ADVOCATE AND FRIEND
November 28, 1925 – September 9, 2023
It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of one of our beloved founders, Muriel Martucci. Muriel along we her husband and an incredible group of other families founded AMIB with an unwavering commitment to providing life-long care for individuals with disabilities. Anytime someone told her she couldn’t do something, it gave her a boost to just do it. No one could tell her what she could or could not do. She was as passionate as they come. In this difficult time, we come together to remember and honor the extraordinary life of a fun soul, and the heart of the Association for the Multiple Impaired Blind.
Mrs. Martucci was known for her fun and determination. Muriel lived her life to give her son, Paul, the best life possible. Paul is blind with multiple other disabilities but that never stopped him and his family living life to its fullest. They travelled everywhere and enjoyed living by the ocean. Her passion inspired us all, and her impact will continue to resonate for generations to come.
Muriel will forever hold a special place in our hearts, and her spirit will guide us as we carry on the AMIB mission. Let us remember and celebrate Muriel for the remarkable person she was and the incredible impact she had on our AMIB family.
THANK YOU TO MURIEL AND AMIB’S FOUNDERS
Founded in 1968 by a small group of parents of young adults with developmental disabilities, along with their friends and professionals, the Association for the Multiple Impaired Blind, Inc. (AMIB) has been a beacon of support for individuals facing challenges. We owe immense gratitude to our founders for their vision and dedication. In 1975, AMIB opened its inaugural community residence in Barnegat, New Jersey, marking a significant milestone in our journey. Their commitment to providing care and support remained unwavering.
Over the years, AMIB has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. We have embraced the concept of normalization, striving to integrate individuals with disabilities into their communities. Through community-based residential facilities in Ocean County, we continue to uphold our mission of fostering independence and inclusion. As we look back on our history, we extend heartfelt thanks to our founders for laying the foundation upon which AMIB stands today.
