End of Year Letter

Two pictures of Joe with his sister, Dianna. The first picture is from Dianna's wedding, the second picture is a recent one.Allow me to briefly share my experience as both Joe’s sister and caregiver during his transition to the AMIB group home, in the hope that it may offer insight to other families considering similar arrangements. Joe was born with an intellectual and developmental disability and a visual impairment. After our parents passed away, I took over as his primary caregiver, and for 25 years, Joe lived with my husband, our children, and me, becoming an integral part of our daily routine. Within the last few years, he was also diagnosed with dementia.

As Joe’s dementia worsened, his dependence on me grew, and his care became a bit overwhelming. I reached a point where I knew I could no longer provide the care he needed and knew it was time to find a place where Joe would be safe and well-cared-for. After visiting several options, I discovered AMIB, and everything changed.

From the moment we toured the home, I felt a deep sense of relief. The staff was warm and welcoming, and the environment was thoughtfully designed with Joe’s aging needs in mind. What stood out most to me was how well they tailored their care to his specific challenges. Joe enjoys his barrier-free home, where he receives therapies like music, occupational, and physical, that keep him engaged and active. The staff’s commitment to his well-being has been incredibly reassuring that all will be okay.

Since Joe’s move to AMIB, both our lives have improved significantly. My own health has gotten better—I’m more relaxed and able to take time for things I could not do before. Most importantly, Joe is doing great. He’s happy, well-cared-for, and surrounded by people who truly understand his needs. Knowing he’s in such a loving and supportive environment brings me peace of mind.

I wholeheartedly recommend AMIB. Their compassionate care and the nurturing atmosphere they’ve created have made all the difference for Joe and for me. With your support, AMIB can continue to make a profound difference for other families, just as they have for ours.

Gratefully,
