Residential ProgramsA New Life For Mary There are so many things in life that we simply take for granted: cooking breakfast…going to work…shopping for groceries…or just having fun with friends. But for Mary — who is blind with developmental disabilities — little things like these mean more than you can imagine. As a child, Mary lived at home with her parents. However, the time came when her parents could no longer provide the care she needed. The only option that existed at the time was for Mary to move into a large, impersonal development center. What hard-fought progress Mary had made up to that time began to disappear. But in 1982, Mary’s life dramatically changed. When she moved into a residence run by the Association for the Multiple-Impaired Blind in Bayville, New Jersey, you could say she started life anew. The Residential Specialist Staff helped Mary learn to clean her room, shop at a nearby market, cook and do other chores around the house. She also began going to movies and concerts with friends. She started living again. Today, Mary attends a training center five days a week. Her goal is to obtain a part-time job. Ours is to make sure there are many more happy endings like Mary’s.
